Evening all :)

 

I'm new to all this fungus etc and want to further my tree health and theoretical side of arb so please bear with me :)

 

Spotted these on a sycamore:

Seen these on a horse chesnut:

Is the above included bark where the 2 stems meet? therefore possability it may shed one of the stems?

Does this look like pyrotophra? bleeding canker? (as i said go easy, i'm a beginner)

 

Also spotted all these brackets on a big beech! have plenty more pics but they take ages to upload!! Plenty of ouzzing and the brackets are all around the base of the tree.

 

What effect will these be having on the tree?

its amazing what you see when you take the camera and have a real look!!

 

I'll get a few books (can anyone reccomend any? both tree health and fungus ident) and come at least half armed with geusses as to what they are next time :thumbup: lol

I'm pretty bad on Fungi as well but...

 

Sycamore - Polyporus squamosus

 

Chestnut - Bleeding canker

 

Beech - Ganoderma pfeifferi?

 

I have no idea about the black and ooze!

 

????

could possibly be panic frucation of the fungi on the beech as theres lots of crappy looking fruitng bodies which means theres little or no residule wood left

the beech is at the side of the canal and goes over the footpath and over the canal with some branches, it has a little silver round tag on also which i suppose means is tree preserved

 

Do people not go round checking the public tree's etc for safety??

4. Black leakage from small bark wounds, caused by the mycelium of Ustulina deusta invading and killing the cambium, a symptom of the final stage of soft rotting the heartwood before the fruiting from underneath the bark of the beech starts and the bark is falling off.

 

Please upload the pictures directly next time to Ecology : Keizer's Fungi Q & A and one species at the time.
