But your not a subbie! That word is (or should be ) banned!

True but it's easier to describe as that than anything else!

It actually gets better as we are payed through an umbrella company and so get the privilege of paying them £20 a week to pay us! I sort my own tax etc.

I can't complain too much as I'm in full tome work and that's better than I was last year, I'm just not doing the work I want to be doing and as such I'm learning nothing!

That job in Wales really put you off didnt it pal? I still have nightmares about that... If you want to learn more and get more experience then find a good, established firm ( you might have to lower your day rate ) and do a day or 2 for them when you can and keep on contracting to pay the bills while you learn and do some networking...

I realise that all of the above is easier said than done. The 2 and a half years i did at treeclear was where i did most of my learning not at college. Just a thought...

You could set up your own firm like everyone else if you think you are being hard done by.

Besides if there's something the arb industry needs its more small companies.:thumbup1:

:001_tongue:

I'm already trying that got a little chipper etc but there's so much competition here it's a struggle.

you either subbie and put up with all the issues, or get the work for yourself on your terms, the way you want to do it.there s been loads of moaning about how unfair being a subcontractor is,if people aint happy there are hundreds of new blokes fresh out of college champing at the bit for any work going.

That attitude you describe is exactly why this industry was overtaken by forestry! Well said.

Same in any competitive industry. You gotta fight ignore the **** and do a better job than any other......stay late go the extra mile. Get a good rep' and people will fall over themselves to get you. Failing that start up yourself it ain't hard in this buis'! Good luck blue.
