Costs of new tipping body?

Just had a quote for a new tipping body on our Canter. Would have full height toolbox at the front and high sides all the way back. Removable tail board and barn doors above and a roof on the front half. All Ali and re-using the existing tipping gear. All in its £4200 plus vat. Does this sound right? Just wandering as I thing I paid £3600 plus Vat for the landy which included the tipping gear. I know the Landy is smaller.

Its a 2000 truck which isn't worth 4k but I'd hope to re-use the body if she blows up.

Not sure where you are but get a quote for Stephen at BL Searle Ltd based in Gamlingay, Bedfordshire (tel - 01767 651117). Just bought my second body from him. A very good, competitive and professional company.

DO NOT use a company in the west midlands that advertise cheap bodies on ebay. He's cond a lot of people (including me) using several different companies - i'll pm full details, if needed.

Aluminium is too expensive IMO, so I made mine with sheet steel on the inside and plastic on the outside, the resulting weight is the equivelant of using ally but at a fraction of the cost. Mine was £700 for the sheet metalwork and another £250 of bits and pieces to finish it off, but I fitted it all myself.

Thanks. I am in Devon so I am trying to get a local guy so I can minimise the time we are down on a truck. This guy can build most of it so he only needs the truck for 3 days. I'd like to build my own but I know I would never find the time

Yes, I guess if I factored in downtime mine would be much more expensive. I think I was without a truck for 2 weeks but did some leave on site work in that time. Once I got it operational I then spent evenings and weekends on it for few more weeks to finish it off.
