How would you go about getting into a conifer with no crotch?

I call trees that have been spurred, junkie trees cause they are all tracked up. Regardless if it hurts the tree, it looks terrible and unprofessional. I have never seen a tree that couldn't be climbed without spurs. It's funny because most of the guys that spur trim jobs around here are junkies themselves.

This is not a stupid thread, you asked a good question and got some good answers.

 

I reduced some Norway Spruce last week, I used my throw line and got my line round the main stem and over some small branches.

 

did one a few weeks back was scratching my head for a while till thought of that best way i say. can also use the pull of the rope back into the stem to 'walk' up the side.
