If anyone has ever dropped through a fork, then that is a redirect! All you are doing using a pulley is removing the friction. Its not about second anchors, thats a whole different thing, we use ropeguides so that our fancy friction hitches work well, so therefore we need re directs for the same reason.

imo FS are not only to remove friction also to save the tree by not burning the bark ore worse!

and the wear of your rope is also less

and using a RD instade of a fork

its easier to remove your RD than climb back trugh the fork again!

and no friction is also a reason but not the only one!

(sorry for my english i thinks it's not correct?)

I do use a fork or crotch in the tree or the other end of my line for a second tip, but never a redirect.

 

but if you never use them, then you will never think to use them if that makes sense?

i never used to use them but just recently its made my life alot easier!
