What constitutes a LOLER inspector to be certified/trained/competant in testing MEWPs?

As iv only done the Arb kit (climbing/rigging) I wouldnt be confident or knowledgable to test a MEWP

However my experiences of MEWP insp's are "some bloke from the insurance company" or "a bloke from a crane company" (and worse - these peeps testing arb kit!)

As im not getting anywhere finding any MEWP Testing courses, Does this mean any old muppet can have a go?.....:scared1:

LOLER Regulation 9 describes a competent person as someone who has the appropriate practical and theoretical knowledge and experience to enable them to detect defects or weaknesses and assess their importance in relation to the safety and continued use of the lifting equipment

So for MEWPS some sort of engineering training and practice combined with a detailed knowledge of how the machine works ought to do it.

there is a huge document from the hse that describes the test a mewp goes through.

most testeres have an engerneering background and oftern electrical/hydrolic specialst knowlege

IPAF offer a cource follow this link

IPAF | English | Training | CAP Card

but the pre entries are tough and to be honest without the engeneering knowlege you would be unllikly ot get on the cource
