As well as running an apprentice for 18 months we've just given a Belgian Arb student a two month internship to help him complete his studies.

The following is a pictorial diary of some of the work he was involved during his time with us.

Fine young man, who fitted in to the team really well.

Our apprentice had the opportunity to dismantle his first tree last week.

He'd only used spikes once before on a practice pole rescue.

Did very well and looked pretty comfortable in what was a fairly tight spot.

I think it's the mindset of having been an apprentice 30 years ago Paul.

I was given an opportunity at 16 and was shown the ropes.

It's quite a privelage to offer that same opportunity to new people to the industry, and be part of their journey.

I'm always really envious of this thread. If only if known 25 years ago that this is the path I want to take, and then been able to find an apprenticeship like these! Very lucky people.

So the journey for our current apprentice, Se, comes to and end with us after 20 months.

He's gone from a complete novice to being ready for the big wide world of Arb.

He now starts on contract work for another London Council for a few months before moving on to an advanced apprenticeship at the Royal Botanoc Gardens at Kew in September

Good luck with your next step Se

All the very best from the Hampstead Heath Arb Team
