So is the 397 helmet fit for purpose? Well of course it is. It is fit for the purpose it was designed for but not for some of the applications we are using it for. Compare the rope access industry, you don’t see them wearing an adapted builders helmet with a bit of elastic to hold it on your head. Why should we put up with less.

I know where I would rather have my head.

vertex vent all the way, had one when they first came out and the only problem I have is that the lip inside the ear muff hole isn't big enough so earmuffs can come out too easily. This problem has been overcome on newer models. I find the chin strap good and the 3 point harness quite adjustable. also for carrying out night emergencies for scottish power the helmet has clips for using with head torches although I remove the visor at night and wear safety specs as you can get glare off the visor mesh.

Actually...they dont fit my head either:closedeyes:...the adjustment is a wee bit limited if you got a small head....a silly oversight imo as increasing adjustment scale would be easily affected without any real redesign dramas....not like motorcycle crash lids that can be limited in their size spec...typically a variation of 1-2 cms max...which often means a small size but massive( relatively) shell....

Whats the point in harping on about side impact protection blah blah if the helmet is a bad fit...it will rotate on impact perhaps, even glancing contact resulting in who knows what, or it simply wont be where its needed as it has moved or should that be flopped into something more comfortable....like under your chin...worse than useless for those of us who wish to upgrade from the pathetic attempts by husqvarna to supply a climbing helmet ...:001_tongue:

So people generally have a problem with the fit of vertex, particularly on small heads. What about the other mountaineering style helmets? Would be interesting to know if they are any better fitting.
