Finnally finnished. Cleared about an acre of scrub, and built a series of dams to make a wet site wetter, and got lost in the spooky part of the wood, and found some tree jelly:confused1:

nice pics there mon!

i must admit i dunno what it is about swampland, but i really do love it

nice dam, whats it held up with? it looks like an rsj on the left hand side?

The dam is made from recyled plastic that joins together with ball and socket joints. The turf layer has to cut throught with a spade and then each section is hammered into the ground with a rubber sledge hammer. It is quick to build until we hit areas of glacial boulder deposits that had to be dug out so that the dams were water tight.

i was expecting something like this..:001_tt2: when walking through a bog you should carry a 20ft 3''x2'' vertically so when you sink they can nail your name to the top of the post

There are a few places on the site where the water is waist deep, and the work experience boy fell in face first on the first day.

nice pics, if your doing a lot of the sheet piling dams you can buy a metal weight profiled to fit on top of the piling that makes knocking them in so much easier

got to love bog restoration!

correction, if you're putting in plastic pile dams, as Ive just been doing for natural england, a piling vibrator, mandrel and 21 tonner makes knocking them in so much easier :D...

through the peat layer... hit the dead sand and the mandrel comes out steaming and red hot to the touch.

I love wetland work. cant get enough of it
