HSE guidelines as follows.

 

Design A, for experienced operators on the ground.

 

Design C, for aerial work and inexperienced operators on the ground.

 

When attending a course the instructor has no knowledge of the candidates experience until assessed throughout the course.

 

So, in other words common sense dictates C's for assessments. In any case, C's are safer because of other people with saws working around you so worth the extra weight.
