RFS Cert in Arboriculture ONLINE

I know this has been discussed on another thread but I'd like to re-open the discussion.

I'm really interested in doing a formal, recognized qualification in Arb. I'm working (and studied) in various areas of Horticulture for a long time but I really feel I could learn more about Arboriculture. Not to mention that I'm genuinely interested in the subject.

According to this.......

Advanced Course Search

.........I don't need any NPTC Certs to qualify for the "RFS Certificate in Arboriculture". According to other sources I WILL need NPTC certs to gain full qualification ( I already have CS30/31/48). The RFS website doesn't have the latest update on this course yet. There also appears to be a "theory only" course leading to a similar Cert in Arb.

I'm living in Ireland and finding it difficult to locate an equivalent on-line delivery of an Arboriculture Cert course.

Can anyone advise me on my options, or are there other equivalent recognized qualifications out there.

BTW, I also found this...........

ARBORICULTURE I course, -Study tree culture, establishment, health, care, surgery - ACS Distance Education

...........but it doesn't appear to be "formal".

The 2nd course appears not to be accredited in the UK ( I think its an Aussie based course?) so probably wouldnt be recognised over here and probably worthless

The NC online doesnt require you to undertake any NPTC tickets as it would be hard to do the assessment via a webcam

I think you would need to put yourself through any other tickets you needed to take to gain employment

the old style of cert in arb required the nptc units to be achieved in order to award the "full" rfs cert. You could still get a cert in arb by just doing the theory component, by passing the exams. Now though, I understand that there is no requirement to do the nptc tickets.

I am doing my cert through Horticultural Correspondance College. I started it in November last year and registered with ABC awards before the change in syllabus. HCC no longer offer the distance learning lessons as part of the "real" award, but do their own qualification which they refer to as "degree level". This isn't accredited by ABC Awards though and I am not sure on how useful it is and how it will be percieved by industry.

Hi there,

IF you have already undertaken a level 3 course of study in hortic., and have a reasonable understanding of some arb stuff, it might be worth having a word with 'Treelife' about accessing the new level 4 Arb Certificate / Diploma (the former Tech. Cert. Arb.)

See Training for further info.

Hope you get summat sorted.

Paul

PS I know that they have previoulsy had students based in Ireland.

APC....I was looking at the HCC courses as well, but not being accredited is is a problem!!!!

Harmony Arb....Thanks for that link. As suspected I have covered much of the "non-Arb" specific portions of this course before. But I'm still very interested in gaining this qualification. It will definitely be good for business from a practical and promotional point of view IMO.
