Descending on a single rope.

Umm im a bit confused, you say your 'topping' the trees prior to felling or are you turning them into poles before felling? If you topping surely there will be some branch structure for you to run you main line over and descend via DRT?

Sorry, I meant turning them into poles. Taking them down so they are below power lines before felling. I know the majority of trees will have an anchor point below the height of the lines but just wanted to explore other possibilities for when the situation arises.

Always looking to try new ideas.

My current favorite way to descend on a single line is to use a single large cambium saver ring and crab like a stitch plate. I clip it to my bridge and my hitch climber and hitch stays on the swivel on my bridge. The swivel just lifts the HC far enough away from the ring stitch plate. I think this is what rock climbers call a rappel ring. I works very nicely. I was shown it the Cs41 course by the trainer. He was using a prussic above it.

When doing this you should use a crab with a round profile.

if you don't have the metal work you could just tie a italian / munters hitch and descend on that. It should be backed up with a prussic or some such hitch to prevent free fall though. ( it does twist the rope more then a stitch plate or figure of eight)

Awsome way to preach bad pratice mate.

How long does it take to back up ur figure 8 and swap climb line to tag line! these are both easy and obvious things to do, and takes another link out of our dangerous job. which is a plus to everybody in the Industry.

use ur feet descending on single line....... well smart that one!:congrats::congrats:

Your quite right it doesn't take long. However, my choice, my life, my problem.

I was not preaching that using boots or not backing up the fig8 is a good idea. Merely stating that they are both possible and if you are really stuck a way out of a problem.

You've never done footlock practice in the woods before on your own and forgotten to clip the fig8 on to your harness, you must be a better man than me?

Clearly never been rock climbing before either. Belay devices with no backup...........the only difference is you kill the climber not yourself.
