crane dismantle

hey guys, i'm doing a crane dismantle soon and was just wondering if you guys and girls could give me some tips, things like signals, cuts, the way you attach chains/loops to timber, how to evaluate a timbers weight.

 

any info would be much appreciated thanks

You can't be that far from Reg Coates, mate.

 

I would try and hire him for the day in your situation. You will learn more from watching Reg for a day than spending years asking questions on a computer.

yeah i'm sure they do, but cost money and i just want to get in there and do it, it's the only way i'll learn eh

depends on the job i suppose. the training could end up being the cheaper option? Are you craning because of access, or working around some real nightmare targets?

Know what you're saying mate, but I don't think crane jobs leave a lot of room for error.

 

You could work with a crane-savvy climber for a day, learn loads, need one less groundie (and wage), and run the show from the ground yourself.

 

Probably cost you less than £150.

yeah that is a good point, well thank you all for helping. i'll ring a friend who's done it all before numerous times, see if he can give me a day of his time. i'll post some pics when the jobs done.

Good decision mate. Cranes cost £££ at least here anyway. Best to maximise it's productivity. Trying to do it yourself the first time is an expensive way to learn.
