I'm not just a pretty Tree Surgeon

Had two week at home, put a new engine in the Landrover, renewed all the discs and brakes and ripped the old dormer off the roof and fitted the biggest Velux's I could. Two velux's gone in side by side, only looks like I've fitted one.

The scoul in the third photo is after the wife just told me how much she had spent :bored:

The money I save by doing the jobs myself is enormous, I used to do building and roofing and am a fully qualified mechanic who worked mainly on Landrover, also coded welder for BNFL and done half a brick laying course.

...and yes, I know it takes twice as long building a house out of half bricks :sneaky2:

"I'm not just a pretty Tree Surgeon"

Haha dean, Blow that trumpet ( no one else will)...

What you trying to say Ed, I'm not pretty :sneaky2:

I'll have you know I won the prettiest baby competition 43 years ago!

Mind you, the competition wasn't that great. At least my mother loves me. :001_tongue:

Nice work Dean. I know what you mean about the cost saving. I was quoted for having 2 velux's in my roof. After seeing the quote I put them in myself. Saved an absolute fortune, and not that hard to do in the end.

I'll have a go at doing anything except when it's obvious that it won't be cost effective due to the time it would take me. I don't like paying anyone to do anything i can do myself.:001_smile:

It's good to see there are still people around who have some manual skills. Nowadays, the general public are afraid / incapable of doing anything themselves. However, I suppose that keeps tradesmen in a job!

The most frightening part of the job is making a huge hole in your roof and hoping it doesn't rain.

The hole doesn't look big but it was 6ft high by 10ft across :scared1:.

My problem is trusting people to do the job right, I won't let anyone do anything for me.

Last year I put my trust in an engine recon firm, bought an engine for the landy, put it in and have just changed it 12 months later because whoever built it was a muppet.

If you want a job doing right, do it yourself is a very good saying :001_smile:

Todays Job....and tomorrows and the day after......

My daughters moving into this house which had a loft which you didn't need to switch a light on to see there was that much daylight coming in.

Note my groundy wearing the good old chainsaw trousers

Neighbour was crapping himself because we turned up in the sign written landrover with tree surgery written all over it and started taking the roof off. He was asking my future son in law to "make sure they do it right wont you ? I dont want my roof to leak " :laugh1:

Normal roofing felt is £30 - £40 a roll, the stuff I am using is £120 a roll, I'm a proper bodger me guv !
