Obelisking?

Has anyone heard of the phrase 'Obelisking' in relation to tree work before. I am assuming this is the removal of limbs and leaving a trunk standing?

A literal description of an Obelisk; is a 4 sided stone pillar tapering towards its pyramidal top.

 

However, as this passage from Wickepedia show, obelisks are often "monolithic". So I would concur with Monkey-D that to obelisk a tree would be to remove its entire crown and scaffold limbs just leaving a free standing trunk thus creating a Monolith.

I have always though that obelisk better describes what we do to a tree anyway. 'Monolith' is just a geological feature that doesn't need to be a particular shape.

 

Wikipedia again: A monolith is a geological feature such as a mountain, consisting of a single massive stone or rock, or a single piece of rock placed as, or within, a monument. Erosion usually exposes the geological formations, which are most often made of very hard and solid metamorphic or igneous rock.

The word derives from the Latin word monolithus from the Greek word μονόλιθος (monolithos), derived from μόνος ("one" or "single") and λίθος ("stone").

Prefer 'SDT' these days meself.
