steel strop snapped

I dont own one, and have never used one.

I think when was it LAST inspected would be more relevant to when it was NEXT due to be inspected:sneaky2:

As has been said, most of this is assumption and conjecture without full disclosure of ALL the facts about the working life of this strop.

If Its now unusable can you not cut the outer sheath open and have a look at the steel cable ? And post pics .

you need to cut it open. you said its rusted through, yet its still sheathed?

The only way I can see one of these failing in such a way is abnormal loading/forces? Has it been used for something its not designed for?

Well, its certainly rusty, has it been exposed at any time to salt water, or chemicals of some sort. I have one of those wire-cores, I'll see if I can see beneath the cover any where.

Couple of mins later.....

Just had a look, cant see through the cover anywhere, but the ends still got that galvanised look about them.

Wow that is bad ! In it's lifetime it must have had something spilt on it to cause it to rust/weaken like that . Is the rest of the steel core rusted ? And if so how bad ?

no exposure to chemicals or saltwater. i dont have owt to do with either of them.
