Hello all,

its rare that i ventrue into this part of the forum but here i am,

i am seeking advice about log splitters I am looking to purchase one at the moment, the requirements i have are as follows:

preferably run of the back of a tractor but would consider a stand alone petrol unit,

good reliable machine which wont cost the earth in parts if it does go wrong and is easy to maintain.

Log splitters are something I have a very small amount of experience with so any advice you could give me would be highly appreciated

Regards

Alex

I recently purchased a splitter.

Things to consider;

What is the flow rate on your tractor (see tractor data.com if you have no data available).

What is the required flow rate of the splitter you wish to buy.

Just my advice but I would look at the big manufacturers, so you can get spares and back up;

AMR (sold by Rytec), Thor, Balfor and Wallenstein.

I have an AMR, 12 tonne, it cuts through tough Elm like butter.

If your no willing to spend the money, then you may buy a pile of poo !

Wallensteins probably represent the best value for money.

Just my opinion but hope it is useful.

According to Tractordata.com (TractorData.com International Harvester 885 tractor information) that machine has a flow of 12.4gpm(US gals I think) which equates to 46.9lpm more than enough to run either a Wallenstein WX310,350 or 370. 4" Ram which gives 20 tonne of splitting force.

Please feel free to call me on 0114 254 7099 or 07968 747414.

We bought a petrol Woodline multipla 10 from fuelwood 9 years ago and its fantastic, never had any problems and its been out in all weathers. Everyone whos seen it or used it says it wipes the floor of anything else out there -tractor hydraulic models included
