Ms260 Crankcase corrosion due to Palm tree

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Just learnt the hard way and found the crankcasing around the clutch and brake just disintegrating away.

so now ive got to either buy a new saw or fit a new crankcase my self. My local dealer said it would cost £350!

just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem because of palm tree sap?

plastic crankcase saws for palms... or cut enough of them to buy new saws once a year. Ive only ever seen pics of palm rot in magnesium but its quite dramatic...

concrete floors can also corrode magnesium, i've picked old saws off garage floors and the base is like swiss cheese

I have heard about this from the guys in the US and OZ, it seems to be fairly well documented problem - not good:thumbdown:

Spud

Yep me too. Would want to cut a palm tree and destroy my saw.

clean it properly afterwards and it should be fine... leave it a week with compacted chips, dust and gunk under the clutch cover and corrosion will follow.
