Today I had a crap day! Whilst dismantling a horse chestnut I looked down to see smoke billowing from my chipper. When I opened it I could not see any damage to the belts or radiator but when I touched the starter motor I burnt my hand!

It had only been running a couple of minutes including warm up. The ignition must have stuck on engaging the motor.

The Jensen dealer is sending a new one and it should arrive tomorrow morning.

Not happy although I am not paying for it but I could still have down time!

Any body else had this problem.

yes and we got round it buy putting a push button in series to the starter solinoid so you have to turn and hold the key then press the button in to start !

That sounds like a good idea! Was it easy to fit?

Piece of cake as im an ag fitter by trade lol !

Not difficult at all get good 20 amp rated push button and use good cable and conectors and fit it in the cable that feeds the small solinoid actuation cable on the started motor !

unlike most kit the chipper drowns out the noise from the engine so if you dont realise it its to late usually !

dont forget to check the ring gear before fitting the new one just to be sure

Today another of our jensens frazzled its starter guess it got stuck engaged and the resulting current being back feed has melt all the insulation of the cables  Hamadryad we had to have new water bottle brackets fitted to ours which broke again in the end i took them home and weld a same traiangle of steel to stiffen the angle.
