Well the trees are growing well to date. Apple - Maple - Spruce - Plum - Ripple Sycamore - Ash.

Where did you get the grow bags from ?

How are you finding the spruce? We plant and transplant to bigger mother pots around 15-17,000 spruce a year for x mas tree's. Also how are you finding the apples something i have never grown.

Yes grown from seed. A lot of hard work and patience. We mix sawdust with soil mulch and horse poo. Spruce are doing well considering the weather this season -14.6C

 

Small scale at present so can use rainwater in dry conditions.

When your spruce get bigger and you put em out somewhere else try and avoid exposed spots for the first year or two. They get wind burnt and go down hill fairly quickly after that. Lesson learned the hard way there...

Just wondering if you have noticed any "weed seed" germination from the use of horse poo with your potting mix?.

Not at present as we top up the all the black bags from first planting when the mixture has settled with rain and weight. Then at planting out use a sawdust mulch to cover close to the trees.

 

I have some more to do this week so will take some pictures. Growth rates with the horse poo is staggering.

sory to hijack but do people plant commercially plugs ive only ever seen bare root being planted
