how to stop my rope twisting

i always just flip it over my head to my crotch, and untwist it as i go, this is with 20m ropes, anything bigger gets flaked into a bag.

Some ropes are worse than others, i have the end cut off 1 of mine just now, to try and milk it.

I flake mine into a rope bag. I've got a 45m xtc+ if you can find something tall enough to hang it without either end touching the floor the twists will come out. Needs a bit of stretch to sort it.

 

I store mine for longer periods like this, coil it anti clockwise and as it comes off the floor it goes through a pulley in the roof and down to the hooks. Never twists now. those hooks are from b&q £6 each

Tie one end to an imovable object, walk away from the imovable object until all the rope is payed out. Pull the rope as hard as you can so that it is all off the ground and let go. Repete 3-4 times. The rope should have sorted itself out by then. Coiling the rope is a pointless exercise, store it like a throwline, load it over your sholder into a suitable containerl. Then next time you need it, it can be used straight from the container.

if you descend from the tree and pull the whole thing through the tree to get it down it really helps.

Absail of a really high thing like a dam, tall building or radiomast.

 

If someone with a clipboard / loudhailer / hivis and hardhat combo tries to stop you, just tell them you are getting the twists out of your rope (done in the name of health and safety of course).

 

I believe our American friends call the twists made through coiling "Hockles"... nice!
