I've never been on a sea kayak, but when we were kids we used to take a canoe to a local loch in the summer, I always loved it and last year I dug out the old 12ft college type fibreglass canoe, but I was too fat to fit in it !!

So I bought a very basic 2nd hand sit on top type canoe last spring, have taken it to a few lochs, and hope to take it to many more this year!

I don't have any of the fancy gear, just my old kayak, an old paddle, a bouyancy aid, waterproofs if it's cold or shorts if it's warm!

Sit on top kayaks are good if you only want to use it in the summer unless your fully prepared to wear a dry suit in winter which believe me aint comfy under your arms when paddling.

I beg to differ I use a Typhoon multisport drysuit all winter with no problems........
