hi all,

got to do some close board fencing next week

70 mts long

4 x 4 fence posts, rails, a 6" kick board, and feather edge boards

question is, wheres the best place to get the rails from, and whats the best size to use.

i based my quote on 3 x 2 treated, but saw some today that was around 4 x 1 1/2 (ish)

i need 240 mts so if i can save 50p per mtr it'll be a good saving

Depends on how far apart you are putting the posts and height of feather edge boards I always believe in using a high speck/over engineering so that it doesn't sag or warp when the customers neighbour looks at it ,with a view to giving you more work. They always notice a cut price job .

Are they going to be face mortised?

Why do you need 240m for a 70m fence?

I would say 3 x 2 would be about right.

He needs 240m because he is going to be using 3 rails per bay of fence (i.e. 70m x 3; plus a little bit over for cleats etc)

Are you fixing straight onto the face of the posts?

Our standard size is 87mm x 38 mm
