I only trust 2 people. One of them is me, and your not the other one, comes to mind. Again, seen/heard of too many stupid incidents of the GP buggering themselves to trust folk without experiencing them myself. The same for "tree men" too.

... as for the training i dont feel i need it, as i only cut firewood on the deck, i now about the kickback arc, chain sharpness ect so as i have no intension of felling tree ect cant really see what the need of training would be:confused1:

Unless you actually do the CS30, you won't know what you are currently doing wrong now, will you.

Nothing to do with felling trees, buit all about maintenance and safe handling of a chainsaw.

I have to agree with the saying: "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing"

Sorry if my views dont tie in with yours, but thats just how I see it. Unless otherwise informed I think that people have 0 knowledge in whatever area. You soon learn whether or not they have, and move from there. Thats the way I was taught to work in business and it does me grand.

Not having a ticket doesn't make you an idiot who shouldn't be cutting a bit of firewood for yourself.

Likewise, possessing a ticket does not make you automatically supremely capable.

I have noticed an affliction amongst tree surgeons (though not on here, I hasten to add) by which many seem to think that running around in trousers emblazoned with STIHL and HUSQUVARNA makes them God's gift.

A ticket might be worth considering for the OP as a quick, condensed way of learning what might otherwise take many weeks of hard graft, trial and error etc as regards use and maintenance of the saw. On the other hand, if you've used it for 25 years and you know how to sharpen it, it's probably a waste of time.

How many on here installed their own wood burners? What do you reckon the stove installers forum think of you? :D

One of them is me, and your not the other one" i find insulting, no probs though, its an open forum, sorry if i offended anyone:thumbup1:

Hi, my first post:biggrin:, i think this is a very good forum for anyone interested in prosessing their own firewood, however it seems to me the pros out there automatically assume that joe public should never be allowed anywhere near a chainsaw.I myself have and still do use chainsaws without any training to cut firewood and i think i am quite safe doing so, i feel its a bit unfair to tar everyone with the same brush , before i had to finish work (on health grounds) i was in the plant hire game and had to have a fare amount of common sence did some very tricky jobs over the years just useing experence and common sence, would like to here your thorghts, ones again gr8 forum:thumbup:

Dont worry what Joe Public does, i hope you just concentrate more on your sawing than you do on your spelling.

I do not infer you are stupid. I do not infer anything. Its hardly saying that your stupid is it? I wouldn't trust lots of very clever people with chainsaws

I don't really want to get into the "my willy is bigger than yours" debate, I dropped that when I was about ten. But I will say that I had worked in such dangerous, manly, testosterone filled enviroments where

piss taking was a way of life
then I wouldnt rise to it. But there you go. What do I know.
