Dull spurs in my case- I seem to find all the little bits of granite poking their heads out of the ground when i get out of the tree that werent there before the climb lol!

You only kick out with dull spurs that aren't long enough.

I disagree, if you are on very chunky hard bark(like big pops) and you cant get them in deep enough due to the metal of the spikes usually around the ankle area, and when you start to move your body position especially leaning forward they can break out through the outer bark.

 

They can be sharp but obviously not long enough for the species you are dealing with, but i never carry longer ones lol
