Know what you're right, I was thinking that it'd be a bit much to do it with no guidance at all but now that I read through the syllabus I suppose it'd be possible to do just by reading up on stuff and making notes...I saw three day prep courses for the September exams on that treelife website; do you reckon they're a good idea?

If you want actually enter for the exams then I reckon the 3 day course would be very valuable. However, a fair bit of prior knowledge would be expected as I think it is mainly for people that have done the course.

However, as you say, if you have swatted up yourself it could work.

The rfs course is a good grounding for the aa tech

the same ground covered but the aa tech is obviously a bit more in depth

I did the course but missed the exams due to sum **** murdering my mate a few days before the exam so was not in the best frame of mind.

The price has certainly shot up.

Plant ident is the tricky bit as in they are not sp that you come across in every day (well in my line anyway)

biology bit read botany for gardeners by brian capon thats the buisiness

I will take the exams one day but work has taken over.

OH to be a student with all those young ladies!!
