in a word no, you could play at it planking small round stuff 12 inch or less, but if you want to mill seriously you either need a large circular with traveling table, a band mill with table or a horizontal or a bar mill and a large ish chainsaw.

Thanks It seemed cheep thought it might be worth ago

Sorry for straying off topic:blushing:

I was allways told, "if you don't ask you don't get"

nothing wrong with that, if you want to go into milling, i know of a big stenner VB48 bandmill, with 20' tables, but its not that cheap.

No not in a big way But I'd like have a go. Think I'll star with a Alaskan :thumbup1:

Hi, Ive recently dropped a rather large ash, and was wondering if its worth milling or not... if not it'll be rung up and logged, theres 3 sections of trunk from 40" to 28" diameter the larger sections are about 10-12 foot nice and straight, the narrower section is a bit knotty so it may reveal some nice "feature wood". only thing is i only have a 36" alaskan to play with, if its decided that its better planked ill have to buy a set of 48" rails for my 880...

My first large lump half way to being milled :thumbup1:

apart from an old rotted fence post that left a bit of wire in it, all was well and was actually surprised how quick and easy it was.

Heavy old slabs but will skill saw it into desired 4x4 4x2 etc so then will be able to move it.
