The lad was instructed to cross cut a cedar we had just felled. Armed with my trusty 026 he set about reducing the trunk into rounds. .....

 

Looking at the pictures, the cedar as been cross cut and now is in rounds! So the lad as done what was asked of him. Not neat and a lot of waste but job done. It is very easy to assume people will work to the same standards or even better than you do. Even with demonstration how to do it, if you don't insist it is done that way then anything goes. I learnt the hard way on that one.

RobD, we can all learn from such incidences, we are not all right all of the time. By the OP raising the issues here, and various opinions given, we can all glean something to add to our own experiences. Its too easy to assume that someone can perform tasks faultlessly, because they say they can.

I think your all missing one thing!!! Some people were never ever meant to pick a saw up:thumbup: And lets face it he was already on a highway to nowhere when he was given an 026:001_tt2::lol:

Hey all, give the lad break! I cant't find the first thread so can only comment on this one.

 

Its only a bit of wood on the ground its not pretty but it cut up. Theres too many factor to consider chain,bar etc

 

Fair enough if he produced that sort of a cut up a tree you could slag him of as much as you like, but then again you would of used a bigger saw!

 

and from experience some young lads don't like asking because they don't want to make themselves look stupid.

There seems to be a lot of tool blaming going on here. The 026 was good for the job. If he managed to plunge cut the ground with a 16" bar then what would have happened with 20+"?

 

Technique will be taught (at my cost and his benefit) and a CS32 investigated if necessary.

sod that! he obviously hasnt got natural ability given a 2 year course and a years experience! spend youre valuable time and experience with someone with potential:001_smile:
