Up to 10 paid days off on top of holidays and sick days x5 staff? Wow, that must take some sticking financially. I have worked for companies that could have afforded this price-wise, but in reality it just wouldnt happen.

It is a reality but I have to admit I don't pay sick pay- that turned out to be taking the piss with phone calls explaining' up all night at both ends sort of excuses'

The 10 days paid are not really paid for days off- they still have to come in- even if we just play games interspersed with a snow clearance call/ servicing/ reorganising/ just keeping the business up and running- yes - even those brick damaged chains get a file up.

Its probably the reason why there aren't really many big tree firms, loads of small 2 man bands and why everyone seems to get fed up being an employee and go it alone unfortunately.

Thats a little different then, thanks for clarifying:thumbup1: Talking of sick pay, the last company I was employed by, paid sick days Tues,Wed and Thurs only, as Mondays and Fridays always seemed to be the skivers way of making a longer weekend, it certainly sorted the wheat from the chaff, and short term sickies virtually stopped over night.

If a business with 5 employees can't make enough over the year to pay staff for bad weather- my calculations include 10 days off per year including when rain really stops play- then someones not doing the sums right or pricing right. More than 10 and it means the boss man is going to be pushing hard for a while to recoup those losses- depends how you see it.

.

I recon thats a load of rubbish. Its economies of scale, the more guys you employ the more profit you make on each man. An employer with 2 employees will be making less per person than a 15 man out fit.
