What files do you use?

Right I use a 361 as my main ground saw for which I use a 5.2 file as I'm sure the packet says to (I cant seem to find one at the moment), however just lately I keep being told that a 5.5 is what I should be useing - surely this is too big and will produce a blunter edge.

The only advantage to this I can see is the blunter edge may stay as sharp as it gets for longer?

My beloved 361 has just been taken from the side of the road.

Dont worry, they will bring it back when they see it wont cut........:001_tt2:

1, find a name written on the chain

2, Stihl chains have basic type written on depth guage, all others have basic type written on drivelink

3, use the manufacturers filing charts, find your chain and read across to find file sizes, angles, and sharpening kits used.

4, HINT - use manufacturers own tools for chain.

(and for the record, a stihl 3/8th chain most commonly found on a 361 takes a 5.2mm or 13/64 file)

This is what I have always done and will continue to, I'd never heard of useing a 5.5 on a normal 361 chain till a few months ago and will now try to forget I ever did.

Shame tho I was hopeing there was some intereasting reson for use a 5.5.
