so basically Tony, what we would put down to weight and stress could actually be fungis related? it would be a tricky one to work out i imagine unless you dug out your micro scope:thumbup1:

 

the wieght exagerates the effects of fungal activities within older trees, this is why pollards go on for centuries longer than thier maiden counterparts, they havent the wieght issues and therefore can withstand much more progressive decays than a full maiden ever could. imagine somebody eating away at your achilles tendon over a decade atom by atom, at some point in its miniscule degradation, youll try and leap that fence, and snap!:001_smile:

what about a maiden tree that grows in the centre of the wood that is nicely balanced and protected from the brunt of winds so it too could have a a rather large fungis problem and be ok, have you found this on your searches? :001_smile:

Another thing that makes me wonder about infection in pollards and coppices is the they do not have all round bark protection, and the larger they get the more movement at the stool (is that what you call it?) is this very basic stuff, i do not know much about it,:confused1::biggrin:

Tirfor T516 Winch is what iv got

that is possible mate but never done any winching

im going to get josh to knock it out , get someone that knows what they are doing watch and learn thats what im going to do

 

might have to lend josh my mog and trailer :thumbup:.as his got rid of all his transport
