Timbercutterdartmoor,

"So what about the plenty of people who have invested thousands to locally produce good quality seasoned hardwood to low moisture levels? I felled some sycamore 24 months ago; it has been barn stored before being split 10 months ago. Yesterdays moisture readings were all below 19% (including the inside of a freshly opened piece)... "

So what about them ?

You tell me. Thought you were a spokesman for Burnswood :sneaky2:

To quote the site: Blatant lies in red!

There are many unscrupulous firewood and log traders who are claiming that their wood is seasoned, however this has been debatable claim for many years.

Perhaps in Dartmoor there arent any unscrupulous firewood merchants, unfortunately the rest the UK is a bit different.

" Do briquettes smell nice ? "

Strange question, I guess they smell ok, not really into the sniffing briquette thing !

Do briquettes smell nice?

Depends what you put in them. I know of one manufacturer who adds perfume but I dont thing they sell any better. The only thing I have contemplated is adding citronella for an outdoor range of briquettes but to date I have been to busy doing natural pine briquettes which funnily enough smell of pine.

I would say bricks are not a threat to the firewood trade. They dont compete with real logs . They complement and form a valuable side line like kindling. I would say give them a try then you will see for yourself what the demand is. If there is alot of arb talk members close together up north maybe join forces and get an arctic load in. Talk to verdo and Hot max both have factories nr Andover Hants. But I am sure they have factories up north. Both companies will deal direct to a trade outlet.
