Dual Wheels or Single for forestry

My MB Trac will soon need some new rubber however with a size of 16.9 X 26 it is no longer classed as standard tyre size so the tyre distributors have put up prices. As good secondhand seems to be like gold dust I wondered whether I could get around the problem using duals. I have row crop wheels for the MB at 9.5 X 42 if I got another set and fitted as duals all round it would give me a similar footprint and have the advantage of higher ground clearance and top speed if I dare use it. Any body have experience of duals in a forest environment.

Get some new wheels made and either go down to 24” rims or up to 28” rims, a 16.9” wide tyre is only ~420mm wide so a 445mm or 490mm in e.g. 24” would end up about the same diameter with a wider footprint.

Sure it may cost a little more initially but 24” and 28” tyres are much more prevalent and appear on the second hand market more often.

duals are a definite no no especialy if mounted on row crops ,mud collectors ,strain on dual fixings , try Brocks of essex (farmers and machinary dealers ) near stansted airport .If changing tyre size then 28 would give more road speed but strain gearbox if big load on.Metric equivilants are available.
