there are wild beavers in the UK (escapees) they just arent well known about.

 

The problem is people think of american beavers and then trees in rivers and dams etc, and this causes loads of politics, and issues about flooding and fish passage etc etc.

 

european beavers dont really make big dams (if they make dams at all) and im all for it in the right locations, there is currently a project aiming to establish a truely wild population not on a nature reserve, no fences, no boundaries. A suitable catchment cant be located for the trial reintroduction although i think the project will be up and running within 12months with truely wild populations being established.
