Judging by the prices being asked on tbay i'd say you were sitting on a decent wedge especailly for those sizes.

I was looking on there early this year and they were asking £4 for a tiny lump, I've got an eight inch by 6ft piece and a load of little bits stashed, was going to ebay them but haven't got round to it.

It's always a case of hoping the right person sees it at the right time

Pics from Thursdays job. Construction company had dug a trench 1-2m from this line of trees. TO wanted us to do a third reduction to reduce sail area. There is a caravan park the other side of the fence. Eleven trees in total alder and larch.

nice big beech tree.

this is by no means a criticism, but worth mentioning, that the best holding wood when felling beech trees is in the root flare

I agree- when felling for timber the flare is never removed. This also has the advantage of preserving the stem if the stem twists as the fibres will pull downwards into the roots.

Nice tidy felling cuts:thumbup1:

well ive never felled for production, but i was always under the impression the opposite of that was true.

How the old guy's taught me. Plus it's quicker to dress the stem once it's felled

I would have liked to leave the buttresses, but I was unsure that the guide bar was long enough to fell without a keyhole cut. 30" on a 066. The tree had a lean in the direction of fell and thought it was a better option.

thats a good enough reason.....

i sometimes see people dressing out the trunk for no good reason whatsoever, and sometimes wonder if they even know why they are doing it other than the fact they had been shown to do it so!
