I meant to post the pic of the entrance to the tree we capped, i will just double check which rooost the pic is of but if its the one i think it is yes it is a winter roost and has about 22 nocs in it..

 

You seem quite interested in the bats if you pm me and let me know where you are i might be able to get you involved in some work.... we went to look at a 95ft multistemmed beech today with noc roost today - tree is shot and needs to be removed - eps licence is in place and we will exclude bats and remove tree... nice work, nice location and huge tree what more can an arb want !!! :)

At our place of work we carry out surveys, lead really popular bat walks and create and preserve habitat.

 

I do have a keen interest in all things Eco Arb, and am pleased to see people like your self and Nutty Arb

Suppose its like a man-made cavity? Is that not detrimental to a healthy tree with that kind of wound?

 

Im not picking, not at all, just very interested. Like is it not possible to do that to a dead part of a tree, such as stag horns in the crown of an old oak?
