Its quite complex installing a lightning protection system on a tree. You need to contact Ben Fuest who is an expert on this. I would try to bring him in on the project.

 

I saw him talk last year. He really knows his stuff.

 

You need to consider that if you install it incorrectly the lightning strike could flash-over from the lightning conductor in the tree to a nearby object.

I haven't actually seen the tree in question, it's over 200kms away, or about a four hour drive.. the customer seems to think all i have to do is screw a wire to the tree and job done. trying to explain to people over here about tree care can be difficult, in fact i'm actually surprised he doesn't want it felled as this is the usual answer to any tree related issue in slovakia

good luck there Dee. have you got the job yet or just quoting for it? must admit from what you've said they usually fell or leave to fall. strange request for it to be protected.

Quoting/ advising on this one Rich, reckon if i go for a look, he'll defo want a price for takedown too. still it's been interesting finding out about conductors and the like, whole side of tree work i was unaware of! viva arbtalk!
