The point of this thread is that i was throwing into question the real suitability of green ash as a substitute for seasoned logs, Customer opinion seems to vary because thats what they get told by firewood merchants

 

I WAS SEEKING A PROFESSIONAL OPINION?

 

 

Anything dry is better than anything wet!

I think the answer was in your own question unfortunately - green versus seasoned - irrespective of species - what would you choose?

 

Yep, green ash 'will do', especially on a woodburner, but nothing to beat well seasoned wood. I suppose it could be mixed into a load, green ash is ok, but maybe not quite as fantastic as the well known poem goes on about! And the weight issue, if you sell by weight that is.:thumbup:

Are you not a proffesional?

 

You could do a very scientific test yourself to find out, it goes as follows.....

step 1) Light 1 fire out of green Ash

step 2) light 1 fire out of seaasoned wood

step 3) stand back and watch

step4) see what burns better

ok i was seeking a fellow proffesional opinion as i do know a couple of car sales man and when i went to buy a car they both gave me differant opinions?

this week alone 3 new customers have phoned me asking for seasoned wood (any species as long as its dry) cos all 3 have had to have thier chimneys unbloked after burning fresh wood ........2 of them ash, 1 willow all sold by a competitor whom i even phoned and they told me you can burn ash fresh.........its a whole other story that one!!!

That is why i asked the question as a competitor is doing the same!!!!

You have confirmed what i already knew

1....Seasoned is best

2....Some firewood merchants will sell green ash and say its as good as seasoned logs
