Good splitting axe

I have been trying to get a good splitting axe for a while and just looking for recommendations. I'm looking for something to split wood I cut on our land that I intend to dry and use in our wood burning stove.

Any thoughts grateful received.

Get a Gransforrs splitting maul, there about 80 quid but hand forged in sweden, hickory shaft. They are the dogs bollocks!..... i sleep with mine.

100% Spot on :) The finest axes you will ever come across, apart from maybe a Cegga, but then at least a year wait and a £200+ price tag? GBA Seem pricey but are worth every penny, they balance better than aything else I have come across and hold an edge you would shave with. I have three of their axes now and wouldnt swap them.

I went for the Granfors splitting axe, rather than the maul because it is lighter and far quicker in the easier straight-grained and shorter forestry stuff I am doing at the minute.

I still use my lebourgne maul for chunkier stuff, but will buy the Granfors maul when logging gets busy. The balance, craftsmanship and sheer beauty are well worth the cost. Not many things cost £80 and have a 20-year guarantee.
