what does that mean? Astkriecher and i will try to remember the word for latter reading!

 

It's German for "branch crawler or creeper", which means that the FB's grow as a resupinate layer on the lower side of the branches starting from the branches' attachment to the trunk as is shown in your first and third photo.

O.k that explains why google speeler gave me creeper when I highlighted it!:lol:

Compartmentalisation on an Alder we cut up today that had fallen on a bridge.

 

Hellao Ranger, As the others have suggested and hinted at, these black demarcation lines are bonderies between rival fungal communities rather than the representations of CODIT/reaction zone/barrier zones.

 

Nice log and shot though.

 

CODIT is really more anatomical structure than a true barrier persay.

 

The barrier zone (wall 4 of CODIT and the reaction zone are the only real barriers, and reaction zones are only viable if the tree is active and growing. There is potential for a great deal of activity during the dormant periods of tree growth.
