Had the tree been debarked by grazing animals, can see sheep in the background.

 

It pees me off when you see horses in a field, no tree guards and all the bark grazed off the trees, owners of the horses oblivious to what the damage is.

Dave, on the second picture the butt looks like it's coming back at you. I take it it didn't as there you are in the 3rd looking ok. But wondered why it looks like that?

oh yeah i wasnt contradicting the work you did, obviously best to try and save it, saw the ring bark on it i think, looks pretty bad. but considering what you had to work with i think its a very good job. looks liek its on private grounds away from foot pathes ect, could it not be left how it was but fenced off?

 

Cheers Patchwork,i agree with you ,but it was just in the wrong place for the owner ,it stuck out like a tird in a swimming pool, and drew your eyes to streight to the tree ,but i see where your coming from 100%.

The land owner said it was 10 years worth of horses having a go at it (should have been fenced off long ago) strange cos most of the other trees had been .

It went over spot on Jason i think it must be the gob laying flat on the top of the stem ,if that makes any sense .
