So which is the best small truck for domestic work with sensible load. The 3.5 ton standard transit fits most places but is over weight by 9 AM. What is the solution. I have no experience with any 4.5-7.5 ton trucks but want a small truck that is not over weight.

VOSA pulled us over last week, (we were empty) that always makes me think.... 4x4 would be great..

Transit 460

Iveco Daily 50C13D

IVECO DAILEY 60C17

Mitsubishi Canter 7C14 (6.5 or 7.5)

isuzu nqr 5t

Merc 816

Nissan Cabstar 4.5t

We have an iveco 50C14 van, which has been downrated to 3.5 tonne. as 3.5 tonne we can carry 900 kg but it drives as though it's empty at that and even with 3.5 tonne trailer behind it it barely notices. I would imagine as a tipper at 5 tonne it would be great.

We were reluctant to go Iveco at first and also worried about the lack of carrying on ours but it has some serious power. I did also see a C17 (I think it was 35C17) but either way 170hp would be quite a tool.

Merc 4x4 absolutely bomb proof and will last a lifetime. So good they are like gold dust to find although you may find an ex utility one. Sadly I have to make do with an N reg 2WD 814 until I find a 4x4 version at a reasonable price.
