My steel excavator track has just sheared a pin however it is not the joining link pin and although it is a genuine Hitachi replacement pin it seems far to big for the track holes. Is their a knack to replacement or is it just brute force and ignorance.

is it the right pin for that track ?

Yes Hitachi have gone off the actual serial numbers but with no method of holding the pin in it must be a tight fit. I was wondering whether the track is heated like cart horse wheel rims.

take 2 track pads off either side of it try and get a bucket tooth up against the link then grind down the old pin and use it as a dolly if you were in the falkirk area i couldhave got you a shot of a track press i take it its a 13ton machine from the size of the pin remember and wear safety glasses as i had a piece of steel in my cheek for 2 years from doing this
