Tree Tragedy

Hi Dean - whats the wind been like and more importantly whats the local tree management like ( LA)....

Kirklees are one of the better LA's for tree management, you see them around and about all the time. I would say they are ontop of their job.

One of the problems is the wind is an easterly, from a totally different direction to normal and when we do get easterlys they are normally mild winds.

The wind hasn't been strong just a bit blustery. But surprisingly I have had two calls today for tree wind damage, one a split Willow and the other a large conifer waving about on its rootball.

Kirklees is a huge Authority, with hundreds of parks and woodland. In an ideal world every tree would be well managed, but they can't inspect every tree in Kirklees and to some extent rely on vigilance of the public.

The public don't know what to look for I know. I am always ringing them and Calderdale to warn them of dangerous or failing trees within a public area. I'm sure many on here do the same. :icon14:

So sad, it was very close to my home.

Of all the local authorities Kirklees is the most active and responsable in it's tree care. The wind was from an unusual direction and reported gusts of approx 60mph at the time of the accident.
