Just looked on the Stihl USA site looking at a ms460 and it says that this saw can use upto a a 32 inch bar

then i looked on the Stihl UK at the same saw and it says you can only run upto a 25 inch bar

why are do they not both run the same maximum recommended bar length.

they tend to run bigger bars in the States on softwoods, also they could well be using it with a skip or semi skip chain,

learn the part codes, youl find a 460 can run between 13" - 42" +,

 

its just not ideal to do so as it can strain the engine. stick with the lower end of the reccommended range and it will cut fine and dandy!

exactly what I was going to say - full skip chain in softwood...

The magnum also has slightly more power which would help.

 

Dunno how much more though.

i thought the new model magnums were just a name with little to no change in power, but the older ones, going back say 10 years, there was a fair difference so buying a magnum would give you a better saw.

 

i want a 660 magnum though *drool*
