No man...I'm talking the string head strimmer....not a clearing saw..I not a total moron!!

You are absolutely right..required. I cant believe a strimmer is the same thing??:icon14:

Only just seen this! I realise that they are not the same things but the risks are similar - I suspect the HSE might see them as the same? I agree that there are not specific guidelines for strimmers as opposed to clearing saws and most of what's been said on this thread makes good (common) sense - it's just the jobsworth possibility....! incidentally you might try this

particularly the Bolle goggles with visor attachment

I've been strimming in my work since 2000, and have always used a clear face visor with ear muffs attatched (so the dog s**t doesn't go in your eyes), A pair of gloves (to stop my fingers going white), A pair of overalls (to protect me against stones and hogweed!!) and steel toe caps (to protect me toes).

Hope thats usefull?

Yeah cool...It is an issue at my place of work for other reasons too ( politics...but lets not go there !! ) My arguement remains unchanged as far as this goes whilst strimming. A visor is actually not sufficient. Dog crap and veg stuff can and will find its way thru IME. So then you use goggles or glasses. Someone pointed at Bolle safety as good in this area...fine. Given there is no danger from the sky falling on your head in the UK anyway, the need for a full on safety hard hat like those used by arborists is redundant. I would say even counter intuitive in hot and bright conditions....but then we all knew that didnt we. I maintain that if the safety officer insist you do it his/her way at work..you simply comply boys and girls...!!:sneaky2:
