Wasn't quite sure where to put this, it could reside happily in a number of threads including......."rare fungi" & "sometimes you have to look a little closer" etc.....

But as it involved AT's most fervant fung hunters I thought perhaps here.

Basically the majestic pollard in the following shots was unbeknown to either Tony or myself, actually host to a very recently discovered rareity.

Phellinus wahlbergii.

Who would of thought it :001_rolleyes:

Fuscoporia wahlbergii (as Phellinus wahlbergii), on/with Quercus robur, wood inside hollow trunk, parkland with scattered trees, 10/06/2010, England, East Suffolk, Butley, Staverton Park, TM357511, coll.: N. Mahler, id: N. Mahler, conf.: A.M. Ainsworth, herb.: K(M)165828, FRDBI Record No.: 1641340, Origin of Record: RBG Kew 'herbtrak' + herb. K (full record data).

Great find :thumbup1: of a species I never had the luck of documenting it myself :sneaky2: .

I was speaking about the new site I visited at the weekend with the guy who found that wahlbergii yesterday, as a result he's gone over there today to see what perenial brackets might be lurking in/on those pollards. Don't think he will be climbing into the hollow pollard tops, perhaps we could do an AT survey in the late summer.

Any one up for it ?
