It was a honour to meet 2 of the big guns of fungi hunting(hama and xerxses)there knowledge and passion is very inspiring, It was great to help them in their quest for rare fungi i thanck them for their time coming all the way to see our fungi and hope fully some great thing will happen because of their visit ,they are always welcome to come again and thank arbtalk as all this wouldnt have been possible

Agh thanks Cutter1, but really I'm just a noob on a very steep learning curve...:blushing: but I do have a passion about it!

Its just Hama that makes me look good.... a truly inspirational and humble teacher, with such a enthusiasm that one can only admire.

we were taught as kids to do this to stop folk picking magic mushrooms and walking about like zombies on the golf course infront of our house, and what kid doesnt hit them with sticks lol.

So do all innocent fungi have to suffer this fate at your hands, sorry, feet ?

It is fungi and the vital role they play in our ecosystem that keeps you in work.

Was having a walk back from a planning meeting yesterday & took a slight detour through English Heritages Kenwood estate keeping alert for anything of interest.

Was chatting to Tony on the old dog, when I caught glimpse of a matured Wrinkled Peach, I was just saying to the dryad that I'd found an nice Oran....when I cut orf.

So, this is what it was Tony

Then had a look at an impressive tier of Ganoderma pfeiferri on these Beech before stumbling upon this interesting fung on this wound cankered Oak.

Had a suspicion what it may have been, but decided I would need a closer look on the morrow.........

So this is the result of the morrow.

Hericium erinaceus on 'Oak'

Not Kew Id'd, but the length of the spines are the give away & good enough for me.

most certainly a first for me, and based upon records, a first for the area.

not in a zillion years mate, sorry to pee on the bonfire! reckon its a mouldy grifola.

"It's" ! try 6 clumps !!!!

Yeah, not 100% on the Hazel groups, but to be honest I couldn't give a flying fu.....ngal, as it simply pales in to insignificance under the awesomeness of the erinaceus.

Andy can't believe it was just sitting there under his nose on his patch unnoticed

Rather pleased with this one for sure.

Been an absoloutely stonking year for the fung.

A roller coaster ride of entertainment & learning

The "eye" (as you will appreciate, is getting honed more & more as the months glide by.

I bet next year will be even beter.
