The best way to make a start in the indusrty?

Tbh i've been holding off putting this thread up for a while, i know there are a lot of people that seem to be going into this of late, this will not be a lonely hearts thread where i tell you all there is to know about me lol

 

Just asking to find out whats the best way for anyone to make a start in the industry, anyone thats keen and eager to learn

 

Not soley just aimed at advice on training but advice on jobs etc and how to approach etc

Same as any other industry really. Employers love keen workers and initiative. Go round local firms asking to help out for free for a day or two (weekends if you currently have a job) to get a feel for the job, see if you are still as keen after dragging conifer branches 500yards to a chipper. Keep harrasing the chaps if they say they haven't got anything for you. Eventually they may see how keen you are and give you something. Don't be late, don't swear, don't ask what time you leave or how much you may get paid. Simples. Realise now that you will be learning from grass roots up. Starting with dragging, carrying, sweating etc etc.

appreneterships i think are the way forward or just work full time and do courses as and when you can afford to/need to.

 

As ive said before working teaches you so much about not just only arb but about work politics geting on with people you dislike etc etc something a college cant teach you
