Some ones I got of K. deusta on that red horse chestnut we ARBOTOM'd and resi'd:

The world is flat and you're about to meet the Great Southern Circumference:

Good ones !

That looks pretty shot.

We're these all from ground level or from higher up?

Look forward to seeing all the cross sections.

Sent our Resi comparisons to you and Paul earlier on.

Grounds level, pretty much. One was from 38cm up and another around 70cm up. The chestnut hadn't compartmentalised the decay whatsoever. Fascinating pictures.

The cherry with Gano was good, as well. Had a few kids take a real interest, so me and Paul were teaching them about wood decay and trees a little. The next generation of arbs, there!

Definately one of the Ganoderma's, and likely to be applanatum, but without a look at the flesh/pore layer and confirmation of spore size then I couldn't say for sure which species it actually is.

Was the tree in leaf at all, or was it standing dead?

Im not 100% sure. It failed about a month back now so before the leaves but it seems the tree was still living when it blew over or very recently dead. Would you expect to see some buds bursting anyway if there was still some residual energy?

Possibly, guess it depends on whether there was any vascular connection last year

I see. The only good wood was a small section on a buttress about the size of my fist. Is that enough to sustain a big tree like that? Not for long i would have thought. On a different topic the customer had been quoted 6 grand to mend the damaged wall in the background!
